BIDDING CHILLI GOODBYE
May 3, 10 AM found Chilli lying on the floor weak and and almost gasping for air, beside her is a pool of vomitus, I also noticed her stools were a little bit formed but loose. Immediately, I rushed her to her veterinarian. She was diagnosed to have Dehydration because of the intolerable change of weather, later on we also found out she had Hypertension, her lab results came in the second day of her confinement showing that her RBC was high and her platelet count was very low. She experienced Hematemesis (vomiting of blood) and Melena (black tarry stools) which indicates bleeding in the Upper GI Tract. On her third day of confinement, she was already very weak, and later at night she was hooked to an oxygen and couldn`t even bare to stand and move her body, she was just staring at us. From then on I knew that this was already too hard for her, I whispered to her ear. “Chilli, kung hindi mo na kaya, okay lang kung iwan mo na kami. You`ve been a very good girl. I love you!” But there was still hope inside me, I knew she could fight off her sickness, she was a very healthy girl. I kept praying for her welfare to God and St. Jude. But then it happened, 0300H of May 6 she was lifeless. Her final diagnosis was Dehydration which led Hypertension and Hemophilia.
Chilli and I were always together, we were best friends, you know. Memories came running thru my mind. I`d always wake up in the middle of the night, and see Chilli watching me sleep. In the morning, she`d lick my face nonstop to wake me up. She`d follow me wherever I go. She`d watch me do the dishes and wait for me to finish. We`d watch TV together and find her sleeping with her tails out under Mom`s bed. We`d lie on her duyan to eat our mirienda, and when the phone rings she`ll race me up to the telephone. She`d play with her stuff toys, non-stop and she`d be bringing it wherever she goes. She`d pee on her litter box whenever Mom and I say, “Wiwi, Shhshshshshshshs!” She`d drink her water whenever we say, “Inom, inom.” She`d sit whenever we say, “Chilli, Sit.” She`d stay in one place whenever we say, “Chilli, stay.” She`d come looking for her squeeshy toy whenever you squeeze it, and she`d jump over you non-stop until she gets it. When the gate bangs she`d know that Mommy`s there, she`d run to her and greet her endlessly. And at the end of the day she`d lie with me on the bed, and she`d put up her legs as a sign that she wants me to rub her tummy. And my most favorite thing we do, playing hide and seek, sniffing my scent, running all over the house, until she finds me, then her tail would wag non-stop. And many more of those happy memories, that I`ll keep here in my heart.
Chilli is my other eye that can see above the clouds; my other ear that hear above the winds. She is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. She has told me a thousand times over that I am her reason for being; by the way she rests against my chest; by the way she thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way she shows her hurt when I leave without taking her. When I am wrong, she is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, she clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, she is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, she ignores it. When I succeed, she brags. Without her, I am only another man. With her, I am all-powerful. She is loyalty itself. She has taught me the meaning of devotion. With her, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. She has brought me understanding, where before I was ignorant. By the way she looks at me she can heal my human hurts. Her presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and of being alone. She has promised to wait for me… whenever… wherever - in case I need her. And I expect I will - as I always have. She is my baby, my bestfriend, my sister and she is my dog.
It hurts to see you bear the pain of your illness, and it very much hurts too see you go. I`m sorry I couldn`t do anything but give you those hopeful massages and good girl praises. Chilli is now at the Rainbow Bridge with her sister, Weech. Eating their hearts out, playing, and waiting for me. I know I`ll see them both someday. But until that day comes, watch over us my dear angels.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, CHILLI CON CARNE!

“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty. A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not. As I wrote that farewell column to Marley, I realized it was all right there in front of us, if only we opened our eyes. Sometimes it took a dog with bad breath, worse manners, and pure intentions to help us see.” ― John Grogan
“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.” ― John Grogan
